Protest Art Art | by Marlene Dickerson

Protest Art depicts South Africa during the apartheid era through the eyes of the artist and exposes the raw emotion of a time in the history of South Africa. An era of fear, distrust, objection, violence and hope for a better future.

The medium of Oil Paint on canvas was used to capture the movement, the fear and the dissent of the people during this tumultuous period. Colour was used to show the darkness of the era and the contrasting brightness of the spirit of the people of South Africa.
